ME Photo & Design | Media, PA Photographer

Happy New Year! I know, I know I am about 16 days behind schedule but that is because we have been very  busy and have LOTS of exciting updates.

In the beginning of November I decided that I needed to take my business in a new direction. Heading into a new year and what is suppose to be a photographers “slower season” I thought that now would be the perfect time to investigate opening up a retail location. So I started creating an expanded business plan along with trying to find the prefect place to have have my shop. Immediately, I knew that it was going to have to be in the downtown area of Media. It’s my home town (and everyone elses), has a ton of really cute shops and delicious restaurants, has a great arts community and I really like the direction the town is going and growing in. To make a LONG story short, I drove by a really adorable corner retail space, called the realtor’s number on the window and 15 days later I had the keys to my very first shop. (Photos below were shot with an iPhone)

That first week was very overwhelming because we realized how much renovating we needed to do in such a short time as I set the bar a little high with an opening date of 4 weeks from when I got the keys. Wasting no time, we started spackling, sanding and painting. We accomplished most of that with in the first week and a half. As you can see by the photo below we had a lot of work to do!
After we got the walls in pretty good shape we started ripping up the carpet and preparing for the install of the hardwood floors. I thought this would be a super easy install as everyone at home depot claimed it would be. I couldn’t have been more wrong about that!  I luckily have the most amazing boyfriend and best friend in the whole world! Special thanks to my Jimmy and Rachel! I couldn’t have done this with out you!
With in about a week we finished the floors and the trim.

There was also this thing called Christmas and New Years that happened some where in between all of this but I really couldn’t focus all that much on those things. I had a deadline to meet!
A day before we opened we had the sign put on the windows and that’s when it hit me and became real. My dream of opening up my own photography shop was actually happening. Tears of joy, excitement and probably fear ran down my face.

So after 4 works of hard labor, on January 6th we were finally open for business!!! I couldn’t be happier with the way it all turned out!

When I was making my business plan I made the decision that I also wanted to have a retail side to our shop and not just be a photography studio. So I started searching for local artists and Etsy artists to showcase in the shop. So in addition to being a photography studio we also sell handmade items such as jewelry, custom announcements and invitations, organic onesies and tee shirts, crochet hats, custom made dog collars, letterpress cards and many other unique works of art. We have a great eclectic mix of items that is drawing in the local foot traffic that wouldn’t think to come into a photography studio.
I’m excited for 2012 and all of the new things that we are going to be doing! A big thank you to everyone for all of your love and support through out this process! It has truly been a labor of love. Stay tuned as I PROMISE we will be doing a lot more blogging in the new year! Also, if you are in the area, make sure to stop in and say hi!
